Jef Gilson

French pianist Jef Gilson came up in the ’60s and played within a straight-ahead hard bop design and in addition made forays into Afro-jazz and free of charge jazz, including a noteworthy edition of Pharoah Sanders’ “The Originator Has a Get good at Program.” He highlighted the youthful violinist Jean Luc Ponty on some early recordings, and in addition made an appearance on Magma drummer Religious Vander’s Vander et les Trois Jeffs. The pianist led many ensembles which range from trios to innovative big rings during his profession, like the Jef Gilson non-et, Jef Gilson et Malagasy, as well as the Jef Gilson Orchestra.
