Biography

A talented bop alto soloist, Joe Maini was a colorful personality whose erratic personal lifestyle and senseless early loss of life prevented him from fulfilling his potential. In early stages Maini toured using the big rings of Alvino Rey and Johnny Bothwell, and he was briefly with Claude Thornhill in 1951. Shifting to LA, Maini was a fixture in both West Coastline jazz motion and in the studios. He frequently caused comedian Lenny Bruce and in big rings, including those led by Terry Gibbs (the Fantasy Music group), Gerald Wilson, Costs Holman, Louie Bellson and Shelly Manne’s Guys. Maini, who was simply in top type on a set of jam program albums in 1954 with Clifford Dark brown and Utmost Roach, also documented with Jack port Sheldon, Crimson Mitchell, Kenny Drew and Jimmy Knepper, amongst others. Maini, who under no circumstances led his very own recording program, died at age group 34 after shedding at Russian roulette.
