Miami-based merenhouse 809 (called following the Dominican telephone code) emerged in 1999 using the release of the self-titled album. Martin Rodríguez Jr. aka Un Caballero joined documenting engineer, maker and previous DJ Felix Erickxson aka DJ Phatman from South Bronx, NY and Lincoln Middle for the Performing Arts graduated Thomas E. Jiménez aka J.J. to start out playing a lively and fun mixture of merengue, salsa, reggae, rap and home music.
