Long after early Dischord hardcore bands Small Threat and Grey Matter split up, 3 strings players in the latter as well as the percussionist in the former made a decision to event. Initially, in the springtime of 1986, Ian MacKaye and drummer Jeff Nelson attempted pairing with Grey Matter alums Geoff Turner and Steve Niles within a music group known as Egg Hunt. When MacKaye proceeded to go off to become listed on Fugazi, Nelson, Turner, and Niles earned another ex-Gray Matter member, Tag Haggerty. Fronted by Turner, the brand new group, 3, helped arranged the tendency in the indie rock and roll scene of searching inward. Nelson, also a visual artist, later stated he just loved the appearance of the quantity 3. The group’s debut, Dark Times Coming, premiered on Dischord in 1990.
