18th Dye

18th Dye may have hailed from Europe, however the group reveled within a distinctly American make of indie rock (an almost pop melodicism wedded to an intense guitar attack) that owed a debt to such forebears as Sonic Youth, the Pixies, and Nirvana. Fittingly, the group have scored an American distribution cope with Matador Information after American indie darlings Yo La Tengo, who are on the label, championed 18th Dye by falling off a tape on the offices. The Berlin, Germany-based group contains German vocalist/guitarist Sebastian Büttrich, Danish drummer Piet Bendtsen, and Danish-German vocalist/bassist Heike Rädeker. The group released its drone-heavy, fuzzed-out debut, Done, in 1994. Chicago manufacturer Iain Burgess (Nude Raygun, Ministry, Big Dark) helped from your time and effort. The less-produced six-song EP Crayon implemented. In 1995, 18th Dye recruited Steve Albini (Nirvana, the Breeders, PJ Harvey) to record their sophomore LP, Tribute to a Bus. Your time and effort featured a far more intense, energetic strategy than Done. In 1999, after three “farewell” displays in Berlin, London, and Copenhagen, 18th Dye known as it quits. Subsequently, Büttrich and Bendtsen produced a group known as Kikkert, while Rädeker shifted to Evonike. Almost a decade transferred prior to the trio re-formed for a couple live dates. Using the music group effective in its reunion displays, Crunchy Frog captured wind of the brand new hype and provided 18th Dye an archive offer. The group came back the favour by providing the label its 4th record, Amorine Queen, that was released in-may of 2008.
